Getting Started and Support
Start with adding at least one verified and tested FreeScout Mailbox URL, usually in the format: https://support.yourdomain.com/mailbox/1
Upon first visit, the app should prompt you to log in as a user/agent, and then load the mailbox corresponding to the URL you saved. It is best to get the correct URL from your web browser, and simply paste it in.
The app currently supports up to 4 URLs, since each icon has a certain width and adding more caused spacing issues on the iPhone. If a URL field is left empty, it’s mailbox icon won’t be displayed.
Pro Tip: Switch Folders, too!
You can also assign a mailbox URL to the same Mailbox but different folders, such as Unassigned, Mine, Starred, or Assigned. Simply visit those folders in your browser, and paste in that URL that you want to assign to a Mailbox URL icon. This makes it easy to switch between different folders in the one mailbox by simply clicking each Envelope icon (that’s how we use it!).
Smart Links
Our app features Smart Links, which is some in-app logic that compares the link you clicked on with the hostname of the Mailbox URL, and if they don’t match, it opens that external link in your web browser, automatically! The official app basically locks you in to the app view, actively disabling holding on a link to open it in a new tab or window, making it very frustrating to use, and was the major reason for looking into building our own app.
App Notifications
App notifications are powered by detecting differences in the FreeScout web notifications drop-down in the top right, next to your account drop-down. As new messages come in across all the mailboxes you have access to, that web notification triggers the app notification, which does not link to the mailbox or message, it just opens the app. Be aware that our app does not need or use the Mobile Notifications module, as that module is designed to work only with the older Cordova-based cross-platform app that uses custom Firebase notifications, not Apple Notifications.
