* Hide Content 100% (Standard Only) – The free Standard plugin background opacity increased to 100% from 85% to fully hide content.
We recently received feedback that the free plugin did not sufficiently hide adult content. After revisiting the design, we agreed. To meet the needs of all users the background opacity has been changed to 100% on the Standard plugin impacting adult, alcohol or vape. Opacity and color can be customized with the Premium plugin.
* SMARTtext Color Automation (Premium Only) – Text color automation sets optimal contrast. Text color changes to black or white based on the background or button color. Now you can set a white background and the text will turn black.
* Error Message Color (Standard & Premium) – With the introduction of color automation, the error message can now stand against red tones. It defaults to italicized white font in the free plugin and turns white or black in the Premium plugin. Previously, it was bold red.
* Built-in Support (Standard & Premium) – Look for the ? icon in the bottom right corner of your plugin settings page to instantly get answers from the knowledge base or access Premium email support.
* Testing Mode improvement does not set the session cookie
* Cookie bug fix affecting logged-in admins Cookie path code cleanup
* Clear cookie button code cleanup to properly detect plugin cookie in your browser.
* Testing Mode Update
Previously, a session cookie was set after verifying when using Testing Mode. To make setup easier we’ve disabled the cookie in Testing Mode. Now the popup will continue to display for preview after clicking the “yes” button, without needing to clear your browser cookie.
* About Freemius SDK Update
Freemius is the platform we use to manage plugin upgrades. We installed a Software Development Kit (SDK) update. This change does not impact the display of age verification on websites.

* Can you remove or speed up the the popup delay time? Problem solved.
When we originally built the plugin it checked for current settings on every page load in order to solve cache blocking issues. This sometimes prevented the age verify window showing or not showing according to the current enable/disable settings. The process caused a delay in the popup displaying, sometimes showing the page loading behind the popup for a split second. The millisecond delay was not noticeable on fast sites, while slower sites experienced 1+ seconds.
Since launching the plugin we’ve added cache solutions. With the new features in place the settings check is no longer necessary for the majority of sites using our plugin.
The settings check was removed from the popup loading process in this update. That means every site will instantly see improvement in their popup speed after updating. For the few sites with tricky cache issues we have left a checkbox setting “Realtime Settings Check” (off by default). Turn it on only if your site is experiencing ongoing cache problems affecting the popup not properly detecting enable/disable settings. Checking the box could noticeably slow down popup display.
* Clear Cookie Button [Free & Premium]
We’ve added built-in cookie clearing to make it easier to preview the popup after clicking “yes” (verifying). When a visitor verifies, including while using Testing Mode, a session cookie is set in their browser to stop the popup from showing on every page. The new feature will detect if a cookie is set on the browser you are using and clear it to reset verification. This simple feature solves the trouble of not seeing the popup when you are trying to preview, test, and adjust Easy Age Verify plugin settings.
“Testing Mode” will preview age verification with or without the toolbar hidden Testing Mode lets you preview verification on your site while hiding it from visitors. This feature was released in the previous update. However, through testing we found that the age window was not displaying with the toolbar hidden while viewing the site. The toolbar option is located under your WordPress user profile. Testing Mode now works when admins are logged in with or without the toolbar displayed.
* A Few Design Tweaks [Free and Premium]
It’s a challenge to ensure front end display works perfectly across many different websites. We’ve balanced this by pulling in limited CSS styling from the user’s website – it does use the website fonts. Most of the formatting of the popup is coded into the plugin. Yet a few websites were still experiencing minor issues with text alignment and padding. We’ve fixed this by adding CSS formatting to the plugin. This doesn’t impact the current display of most websites. Those that experienced minor issues will see an improvement.
- Improved plugin settings user experience
- Responsive display improvements
- Background options moved under “design background” section
- Demo screenshots moved next to options
- Added CSS to improve centered alignment
- Return visitor cookie checkbox display bug fixed
- Center aligned the disclaimer text
- Improved responsiveness of popup display
- Logo is hidden on small screens rather than stacking left of headline
- Text and buttons resize better to display fully in smaller screens at the maximum character count in all fields (most sites would not have experienced the issue)
- Headline text continues to use H1 with increased font size. The age prompt text continues to use H2 with decreased bold font. The headline now has more prominence than the age prompt.
* Improved CSS class naming to prevent conflicts
Some websites experienced a display issue after verification. The window still appeared in the footer. The bug has been fixed. We discovered the cause was a server cache issue.
* Page Cache [Free & Premium]
Some websites experienced unreliable display of the window due to a page cache issue.
* Freemius SDK Update [Free and Premium]
Freemius is the platform we use to manage plugin upgrades. We installed a Software Development Kit (SDK) update. This change does not impact display of age verification to websites.
There’s a new option under the “Enable Verification” setting called “TESTING MODE.” It lets you see what age verify looks like on your website while hiding it from visitors. This mode displays the pop-up window to logged in admins only.
It is best to use TESTING MODE during initial set-up of Easy Age Verify. Keep in mind that switching to TESTING MODE after age verification is running on the website means it will stop showing to visitors.
Edit Default Text For Translation [Premium] Easy Age Verify free and Premium comes with turnkey configurations for alcohol, adult and vape. The default text is specific to each industry and written in US English. This was a hinderance to International users.
Premium 1.2 unlocks all default text for editing. Editable text fields:
- Age prompt text (free)
- Disclaimer text (free)
- Button text (New in Premium)
- Error message text (New in Premium)
With all required display text editable, you can translate age verify to other languages. The optional return visitor checkbox text is not editable in this update.
* Return Visitor Display Text [Premium]
The web is constantly evolving. With tighter integration between devices cookies can sometimes sync between browsers. Our return visitor cookie previously displayed a checkbox reading: “Remember this device.”
If a visitor using Apple devices on Safari enables this cookie, it is possible age verification will not show again when they return using other devices. To improve usability the text now reads: “Remember me next time.”
* A Few Design Tweaks [Free and Premium]
It’s a challenge to ensure front end display works perfectly across many different websites. We’ve balanced this by pulling in limited CSS styling from the user’s website – it does use the website fonts. Most of the formatting of the pop-up is coded into the plugin. - Added CSS to improve centered alignment.
- Improved CSS class naming to prevent conflicts.
- Improved plugin settings user experience. User experience optimized plugin settings page.
Optimized ADA focus highlighted so that the button is no longer highlighted until the user tabs.
* Cache Busting [Free and Premium]
During our own testing of this update we discovered that the new files were not taking effect on some website due to caching. We’ve included a cache buster in the code so that when cached websites install the update the new files will take effect more immediately. It busts page cache and server cache.
* Improved CSS and Javascript calls to add cache busting to improve plugin update changes taking effect.
This impacts plugin updates only and new features showing in your WordPress dashboard plugin page. If you edit plugin settings after installing this update, you will still need to clear page cache to see them take effect in the pop-up display.
Default Opacity [Premium]
We identified a minor design bug that occurs when users upgrade from free to Premium. In the free plugin the black background is set to 85% opacity. After upgrading, it defaulted to 100% opacity. The update defaults Premium to 85% to provide a smoother transition between the free and Premium plugin.
* Admin Notification Bug [Free and Premium]
This version contains an SDK update from Freemius, the platform we use for administration. Dismissing notifications now works.
